How would you react after winning €250 million? The big winner of the latest EuroMillions jackpot , won in France on Tuesday, August 19, will have to ask themselves this question, but they won't be alone in answering it. La Française des Jeux (FDJ) supports those who win the jackpot as soon as it exceeds €1 million.
"When the prize is awarded, the big winner is given some reference points," Isabelle Cesari, head of big winner relations at FDJ, explained on franceinfo last March. Tuesday's €250 million win is a record for a lottery game in France.
The FDJ offers this type of big winner a "personalized welcome" upon receiving the check, then gives them "long-term support, with around twenty meetings on topics that are at the heart of their concerns," continues Isabelle Cesari. The FDJ is there "to give them the most neutral information possible, so that they can make informed choices."
Isabelle Cesari says that the big winners have exchange sessions with each other, which they really appreciate: "There are about thirty of them at our meetings and sharing experiences is very valuable. This is what they are looking for in our workshops," she adds. Isabelle Cesari adds that the profile of the big winners (occasional or regular player) is "very variable," and that there are "more than 200 big winners each year" in France, or "a little more than one millionaire every two days." Finally, she states that there is "no correlation" between the number of players and the socio-economic climate.
